The deafening wind and relentless rain unleashed by Super Typhoon Kong-rey, the strongest storm to hit Taiwan in nearly three decades, left a trail of destruction that will take months to repair. The third typhoon this season after Gaemi and Krathon, Kong-rey’s late October arrival serves as a stark reminder of the increasingly erratic nature of our climate.

On the day of impact, all schools and businesses came to a halt, and supermarket shelves emptied as residents braced for the storm. Hundreds of flights and ferries were canceled, leaving travelers stranded. More than 500 people have been injured, and two lives have tragically been lost. Elsewhere, almost 900,000 households have been plunged into darkness as power grids failed.

Power outages, however, were just one threat. Erratic voltage surges also pose significant risks for both households and businesses. Appliances like smartphones, smart TVs, charging stations, and even life-saving medical devices stood vulnerable, shortening their lifespan or, worse, leaving essential devices unusable at critical moments. For businesses, unplanned outages or voltage fluctuations can halt productivity, lead to data loss, or damage expensive machinery, impacting not just daily output but also long-term financial stability.

To mitigate these risks, Uninterruptible Power Supply systems (UPS) have become indispensable. A reliable UPS can provide high quality, steady flow of power, protecting electronics from surges and ensuring critical systems remain operational during outages. AMPOWER has assisted numerous enterprises and commercial offices in ensuring stable flow of power, protecting them even when faced with the unpredictable forces of nature.
