Under the shimmering lights of Tokyo Dome, a team of extraordinary athletes from Taiwan crafted a story that will resonate far beyond the diamond. Representing their home with precision and passion, the team captured a stunning gold at the WBSC Premier12 Championship 2024 on Sunday night (Nov. 24), outshining a formidable Japanese team with a 4-0 victory in the final.
The road to glory wasn’t without its challenges; The two teams had faced each other three times throughout the championship, with Taiwan losing two matches. On Sunday though, one explosive home run in the top of the fifth inning by Lin Chia-cheng, and another three-run homer by team captain and MVP Chen Chieh-hsien secured an early 4-0 lead.
The team’s 11 hits against Japan’s 4 then ended the latter’s 27th consecutive winning streak, and marks the first time Taiwan has reached the finals of a world-class baseball tournament in the last 32 years. These golden heroes have reminded the world that greatness is born not of individual brilliance alone but of collective effort and unyielding faith. Their historic story is now a shared treasure in Taiwan.
