AMPOWER, a leading provider of power systems since 1994, was tasked with supporting the construction of a Tier III-certified data center in Qingpu, Taiwan. Designed to support the 24/7 operations of the financial company, this project required a reliable, fail-safe power infrastructure. Rehlko’s high-performance diesel generators were key in ensuring continuous power supply and full redundancy, meeting the demanding needs of the data center, and preventing any downtime.
Challenge: Meeting Rigorous Standards and Tight Deadlines
One of the primary challenges faced was ensuring that the power system could meet the stringent Uptime Institute’s Tier III certification standards while adhering to a tight construction timeline. The data center needed to ensure continuous power supply, even in the event of equipment failure, and incorporate N+1 redundancy in its power infrastructure. Given the critical nature of the services the center would support—including the customer’s financial information services—any downtime could have severe implications.
Another challenge was the foundational engineering work required to support the power system. The underground fuel tank installation, essential for a continuous fuel supply to the diesel generators, had to be completed within a tight three-week window, ahead of the broader civil infrastructure. This required a precise and well-coordinated approach to ensure the tanks were properly installed and environmentally safe, with additional redundancy measures built into the design.



Solution: Rehlko Generators and Expert System Design
AMPOWER recommended Rehlko’s 2000REOZM diesel generators, which were selected for their high efficiency, reliability, and ability to meet the demanding requirements of data center operations. The generators, rated for continuous operation and designed with COP specifications, were set up in a 2N redundancy configuration, ensuring that the system could handle any failure with minimal impact on operations. This setup also allowed for potential future upgrades to Tier IV certification if required.
At the same time, AMPOWER oversaw the design and installation of the power system, including generators, control systems, smoke exhaust, and noise prevention. The underground fuel tanks were installed with redundancy principles, ensuring a safe, continuous fuel supply. Multiple pumps transferred fuel from the tanks to the rooftop generators, ensuring reliability during power failures. The collaborative effort between AMPOWER and Rehlko’s Singapore office was crucial for the successful execution of the project.
Following implementation, AMPOWER partnered with Rehlko to conduct rigorous testing and certification. Rehlko’s Singapore factory and TAF’s Kaohsiung laboratory performed full-load tests to verify the generators’ capabilities, enabling the project to achieve Uptime Institute certification for the entire power system.
Result: A Long-Term Partnership Built on Trust and Expertise
AMPOWER’s contribution to the Tier III data center’s success extended beyond the installation of the power system. The completion of this project solidified a long-term partnership between AMPOWER and the financial company with future collaborations. The trust and reliability demonstrated throughout the project were key factors in ensuring AMPOWER’s continued involvement in high-profile data center projects.
